Next week, K7 heads to Hollywood with Associate Director, Drama and Insight, Richard O’Meara, and Global Research Manager, Patti Linnett (pictured), in town for the 2024 LA Screenings.
Our subscribers should stay tuned for our big takeaways and highlight titles from the major US studios opening up their lots to screen new slates (strictly where not embargoed of course!). Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Sony, Warner, Lionsgate, Fox and a number of other industry heavyweights will be welcoming attendees for screenings and other events, beginning around Saturday 18 May.
The week prior to this, the team are also heading to the LA Screenings Independents, the major gathering of non-US distributors exhibiting their latest content from suites at the Fairmont Century Plaza.
In terms of predictions as to what will be showcased – we’d bet on comedic non-traditional procedurals, stylised period dramas, and the latest batch of shows based on big name IP to feature heavily.
We’ll of course also be catching up with clients and other industry friends – both those LA-based and others also flying in for the Screenings. If you would like to arrange a meeting please get in touch!
With the industry in the US still ‘catching up’ post-strikes, it’s going to be interesting to see what shape the selections of highlighted titles take. And to what degree they’re completed and ready for acquisition by the content-hungry buyers traveling to Los Angeles. It will also be interesting how the cancellation of Content LA (originally scheduled to run alongside the Independent Screenings) and travel budgets being slashed around the world will affect attendance compared to last year’s post-pandemic turnout.
Regardless, we can’t wait to be back in LA – to get our eyes on many of the biggest new scripted titles set to debut this year and next, and to take the temperature of the industry as it emerges into a (hopefully) bright new era!
